Two Elizabeth Graduates

I started this post in June and then got very busy.

Last night (Saturday, 3 June 2006) the Hartford Central School alumni banquet was held. Anyone who is an alumni from the school can attend. The classes that are having their 10th, 20th, 30th ... Reunion are most likely to come in larger numbers. The current graduating class is also honored at the banquet.

With this being Elizabeth's year to graduate she wanted to go. Sam and I and Crystal accompanied her. When we got the banquet we saw that's Sam's Grandma Brayton was also there. She was there to celebrate her 70th class reunion. Grandma graduated from Hartford Central School in 1936. Of the 15 students that graduated that year there are 6 class members still living. Only Grandma and one other woman were able to attend the banquet.

Elizabeth Frances Armstrong Brayton b. 19 March 1918; graduated from high school June 1936
Elizabeth Grace Brayton b. 19 March 1988; graduates from high school 23 June 2006

We think this is very cool. Liz was born on Grandma's 70th birthday and Liz graduates from high school the year of Grandma's 70th graduation anniversary.

This picture was taken at Elizabeth's graduation. She was the Valedictorian of her class. Her Grandpa Brayton presented her with her diploma during the ceremony. Dad Brayton has been on the school board for 15 years and has the privilege of issuing a diploma at the request of the graduate. Also pictured here is Great-Grandma Brayton. All three of the people in this picture graduated from Hartford Central School.

Elizabeth was senior editor of the yearbook and designed the front cover. The drawings above and below are of the school mascot "Tuffy the Tanager". Hartford school is a small country school and houses Pre-K through 12th grade in the same building. The cover of the yearbook featured "Tuffy the Tanager" from a nestling to a full grown bird flying off to see his fortune.

Nice work Elizabeth!
